Devices & Scanner Fleet
The device list is every scanning endpoint connected to the Cirqle cloud platform and allowed to count reusable cups for your organisation. Field technicians and shift supervisors use it to see which units are alive, and which bar each one is filing against.
A scanner that is not on this list cannot sign in to Cirqle, even if the hardware powers on.
Meet the hardware family
These are the physical readers. Cirqle is the platform they report to.
1. Handheld scanner (Nordic ID HH85)
The rugged mobile gun used by floor staff. It runs the Cirqle Handheld App. Staff sweep return bins, stacks of dirty reusable cups, and crates. Squeeze the trigger to count. The yellow side buttons do the same job if the grip is awkward in a crowd.
The step-by-step for a shift is in How to scan cups.
2. Smart return bins and kiosks
Drop boxes guests use on their own. The guest puts the cup in. The bin reads the chip and can pay the deposit back to their card without a staff member holding a scanner. They still belong to a service point, such as North Gate Returns. A bin aimed at the wrong place pays the right guest and files the cup in the wrong bar.
3. Countertop POS readers
Flat pads at the cash register. They log a cup as the drink is sold and the deposit is taken. They are not for walking the stands.
4. Wash tunnel gates
Scanner arches at the dishwasher, connected to the Cirqle platform. A whole crate of reusable cups passes through and is counted in about two seconds, without unpacking it. The wash teamโs technician sets these up. Staff do not pair them like a handheld. See Washing and logistics.
Reading the connection dots
| Dot | What you see | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| ๐ข Online | Everything is working. Scans can be sent. | Leave it. Check the venue name is the one you expect. |
| ๐ก Degraded | Low battery (under 20%) or a weak Wi-Fi signal. | Walk closer to a venue router, or swap the battery before the queue builds. Do not start a full-stand sweep on a weak scanner. |
| ๐ด Offline | The scanner is disconnected or turned off. | Check power and Wi-Fi, then pairing. Cups already counted on a handheld are still on the screen after the radio comes back. Send them before you unpair. |
Offline is not the same as unpaired. Unpair only when the scanner is leaving the event, or its secret code is being replaced.
Pairing a new handheld scanner
- A manager gives you either a pairing link (it looks like
cirqle://pair) or a device secret token. - Open the Cirqle Handheld App on the Nordic ID HH85. The screen says Pair Handset.
- Paste the link or the token. For test training, the HH85 practice token is
cirqle_sec_hh85_staging_2026. Use that only when the screen shows โ ๏ธ STAGING. Do not type it into a scanner at a live event, and do not put the same token on two scanners. - If you pasted a raw token, choose your venue name as well. A pairing link already knows the venue.
- Tap Pair Device. The scan screen opens. You do not need to restart the scanner.
The header must show your bar or return point, not ๐ Unassigned. If it says Unassigned, pick the place before anyone starts counting. Otherwise the first send will stop with Venue required.
To move a scanner from one bar to another at the same event, change the venue on the header. To take it off the event, tap Unpair. That removes the token from the scanner. It does not delete counts that were already sent.
